I took an art day at Jumbo Rocks Campground, Joshua Tree National Park. This drawing of Cycat Green with Two Heads and Red Ball of String was the last colored pencil drawing of the day. The day was overcast all day and in the 60s. I like doing my art days outside. There were several Phainopepla sing the bushes near by.
I’ve been making Plein Air Landscapes with oil, watercolor, charcoal, pencil, pen and ink. I now enjoy the landscape of Jashua Tree National Park and draw what I want.
I needed a break it’s been 30 days since right knee replacement. I made reservations for the trailer up at McWilliams Campground on Mount Charleston. I had Gracie as my muse. I pulled out 9″ x 12″ paper and my colored pencils and came up with Cydog Blue with Red Ball. It was weekday in October and the Fall Colors were every where in campground. The campground was empty and quiet and no service with in 10 miles. I like to having Gracie as my muse for the Cydog characters.

We had 3 nights at McWilliams campground on Mount Charleston. I only had a blue pencil and one working pen in my watercolor bag. The pen and pencil in the middle is day one plien air. Jalama Beach Campground is a great place to unplug. It’s about 14 miles from the nearest cell tower. The campground is south of Vanderburgh and west of Santa Barbra California.
