Art o Mat has excepted my copper bookmark. The inspiration for Art-o-mat came to artist Clark Whittington in June 1997. He’s recycling cigarette machines to sell art work the size of a pack of cigarettes. He’s gone from 1 machine to about 200 machines across the country. In 2013 I found two Art o Mat recycled cigarette machines in the Cosmopolitan Hotel Casino Las Vegas, NV. I sent in some of my ceramic tiles and they were excepted for Art o Mat machine. A year later my back went out and gave up ceramic. I will be trying to get this shipment of copper bookmarks out this week.

I am using a rolling presses to cut the copper feathers out of sheet copper. Each copper patina is different. The patina can have different colors such as deep purple, dark blue and turquoise. The bookmarks are attached to a 5” x 7” card.

I’m using a rolling presses to cut copper feathers out of sheet copper. Then I process the copper with household chemicals to get patinas that can be deep purple, dark blue and turquoise. The copper patina is sealed to the bookmark with lacquer. The bookmarks are then attached to a 5” x 7” card and are great for candy vending machines.

Every feather is different. I cut copper feathers out of a sheet copper. Then oxidize the copper with household chemicals to get patinas that can be deep purple, dark blue and turquoise. The patina is sealed with lacquer. The copper feathers are attached to a 5” x 7” card.

I’m having fun with copper patina agin. I have some new copper patina feather on a 5″ x 7″ card and a small piece of copper sheet on a 2′ x 3′ card.

My idea about how to show off what I can do with copper patina will be on diplayed at Las Vegas Artist Gallery next week. Copper is quite soft metal to work with and the patina can be from a deep purple, bark blue to a turquois. The piece that goes in to the book is made from hammer copper, this helps harden it so it’s harder to bend. The feather has been pressed and hammered in to shape but still can be bent. My artist side of me likes a feather to act like a feather, light and delicite. So please treat the feather as a feather made out copper by a artist. The entire piece has been laquered to seal the color.
Thank you Terry Pratchett I used a portion of your book Wee Free Men.

You can find my copper bookmarks at Las Vegas Artist Guild Gallery in the Galleria mall in Las Vegas NV. They will be there this Christmas

Copper Bookmark Feather with Patina The bookmarks is about 4″. I made part that goes in the book by hammering copper and will stand up being in books. The feather is from thinner copper. If you are where the feather can crushed put the whole bookmark inside the book. A laquer finnsh has been aplyed to the bookmark to seal the copper patina.

Copper Bookmark Feather with Patina. I’ve changed the patina to get some light Tuquoise with deep blue. These Bookmarks give me a small canvas to play with.

I havn’t worked in copper since I was doing altenitive firing on my pottery. I would embelish my pottery with copper, stones and wood. I havn’t posted while I set my watercolors aside and let art happen. I have copper, I was a electrician for 20 years. I pulled out a piece of wire and expermented. If something did not come out. I would take the things that did work and push them. This helps me to keep thing simple at first. Things come along with practice, copper is very forgiving.
